SAY: Speech was created to support children who stutter and their families by addressing their individual needs and goals for change. SAY: Speech is a place where your child can learn to understand and manage the impact that stuttering has on all areas of life.
At SAY: Speech, we believe that there is so much more to each child than the way that they speak. We take a holistic view of stuttering which means we will not only address the observable features of a child’s speech, but also their thoughts and feelings related to stuttering that can have a very real impact on their confidence, communication skills, and quality of life.
Because stuttering and its impact vary so much between individuals—and even from day to day as a child grows—we embrace a flexible approach to speech therapy that aims to meet each child and family where they are in the moment. By drawing on a range of evidence-based therapy approaches as well as the child and family’s input, we will individually tailor therapy to achieve the best outcomes!
Speech therapy can be even more effective when paired with other SAY programs. These programs aim to build self-esteem, improve communication skills, and provide opportunities to develop friendships with other young people who stutter. Young people often come away from Camp SAY, Confident Voices, and/orSAY: DC feeling less isolated and ready to take on even bigger challenges in speech therapy!
